MONTICELLO, AR — A woman is dead, and a man wounded after a domestic dispute lead to an officer-involved shooting in downtown Monticello, according to our content partner Monticello Live.
The shooting happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. near the Save-A-Lot grocery at North Hyatt and West Trotter.
A witness told Monticello Live that the man and woman were in the same vehicle.
Monticello Police Department, Drew County Sheriffs Deputies, and Arkansas State Police responded to the call.
The Arkansas State Police confirmed the fatality this morning, but did not release the names of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.
According to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober, a deputy is currently on administrative leave from the department, until he’s cleared, pending investigation of the incident.
Gober told Monticello Live, “Deputy Slaughter did an excellent job performing his duties, protecting the lives of other law enforcement officers.”
Gober added, “The investigation and leave are mandatory in any officer involved shooting.”
The State Police investigation is continuing.
