SHERWOOD, AR – Police have released the name of the officer involved in a Jan. 22 shooting that injured a suspect during a domestic disturbance.
In a statement sent via email this morning, the Sherwood Police Department said:
The officer’s name involved in this incident is Timothy Norvell and he has been employed with Sherwood Police Department for approximately 3 ½ years.
Crandle Hopson, 62, suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was released from the hospital two days after the incident.
He remains jailed on three counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault on a family or household member.

SHERWOOD, AR — Police have identified the man injured in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning.
Police say Crandle Hopson is in stable condition at a local hospital following the incident that occurred at the 100 block of Tenkiller Drive in Sherwood.
Hopson is charged with aggravated assault on a family member and three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.
The lone officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure, as the investigation continues. His name has not been released at this time.
Sherwood Police say officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance involving alcohol around 7 a.m.
Upon arrival, police say the suspect came to the door with a weapon in both hands and refused to put them down.
“He refused officers’ commands to put the weapons down. After several attempts the suspect pointed the weapons at the officers who did shoot the suspect,” Sgt. Michael Payne said.
Sherwood police say an officer-involved shooting is a rare incident they deal with in their city.
“It’s a very scary subject when you walk up and somebody comes to the door and you’re faced with that with no place to go and you’re just in front of them,” Payne said.
It’s also a very scary situation for neighbors who live next door. Haley Jones says she was sleeping when she heard two gun shots.
“I thought someone was just in their backyard and they saw an animal,” says Jones. “I mean I take my daughter walking up and down here all the time. People who are doing stuff in their yard, they come out and say hi and they’ll talk to you. It’s crazy that this would happen over here, it’s kind of scary,” Haley Jones said.

Crandle Hopson, 62, suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder in the incident on Tenkiller Dr.
He is being held on $100,000 bond at the Pulaski County Detention facility.
The Sherwood Police Department says the single officer who shot the suspect is on administrative leave, which is customary for this type of incident. His name is not yet being released.
