Update (3:30 p.m.):
FORT SMITH, AR – Two teen boys are back in custody after a Tuesday night escape from the Mansfield Juvenile Treatment Center in west Arkansas.

In a statement emailed this afternoon, the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported that the boys were captured at around 10 a.m. today.

The SCSO says they were taken into custody on Hwy. 378 about a half-mile south of the Sebastian/Scott County line, without incident, by the Arkansas State Police.   

Original report (8:30 a.m.):

MANSFIELD, AR – A search is underway in western Arkansas for two teen boys who escaped from a juvenile camp.

It happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Mansfield Juvenile Treatment Center in Sebastian County.

No photos have been provided of the escaped juveniles, who are described by authorities as:
  • White, 17 years old, 5’11” tall, 120 pounds, green eyes/brown hair
  • White, 16 years old, 5’9″ tall, 160 pounds, brown eyes/brown hair
They are believed to be walking in the area of south Sebastian County or north Scott County.  

A search continues with officers from the Arkansas State Police (ASP), Sebastian and Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Mansfield Police Department, and Huntington Police Department.

Citizens of south Sebastian County and north Scott County are urged to be aware and report any possible sightings to law enforcement immediately.  

Citizens are also urged to ensure that they have their homes secure. Officials say special care should be taken to make sure vehicles are locked and keys are not left in vehicles.

Anyone seeing these two is asked to immediately call 911. Anyone with information is encouraged to call either the ASP or the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office at (479) 783-1051.
