Original story (April 15):
WEST MEMPHIS, AR – Two male suspects are wanted in connection with a home invasion that happened in West Memphis Monday night.
On April 14 at 9 p.m., the West Memphis Police Department responded to the 1900 Block of North McCauley in reference to a disturbance.
When officers arrived they saw two masked suspects fleeing the area on foot.
Officers then found an 81-year-old woman inside her home who was seriously injured. She was able to tell officers that the pair broke into her home through the back door and attacked her.
She also told police the suspects demanded her car keys and rummaged through her home before leaving as officers arrived on the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital in Memphis where she is listed in serious condition.
“This was a cowardly act committed by a couple of the lowest type of individuals I could ever imagine. They intimidated and brutalized an elderly member of our community without care or compassion. Their actions have scared a portion of our community and we will simply not tolerate it. We will identify and apprehend them as quickly and safely as possible and they will answer for their crimes in a court of law,” said West Memphis Police Chief Donald Oakes.
“We are working very diligently to resolved this matter as soon as possible. The victim is doing better today and for that we are grateful. She is a strong woman with a strong faith with many loving family and friends. I believe in this community and that they will assist us in locating the persons responsible for these crimes,” added Captain Ken Mitchell.
