BRYANT, AR – For the third time in three months, the Bryant baseball field has been vandalized. The city is now left with thousands of dollars in cleanup costs.
On first look it’s easy to see, more than baseball and softball have been played on the field in Alcoa Park.
“The first thing that you see is that the field is ripped with a bunch of donuts,” says Park Director Brandon Griffin.
The outfield is torn apart. And tire tracks round the bases. The Bryant Parks Director says vandals drove through ditches before breaking through the fence.
“The vandalism is getting ridiculous,” says Ashley Mills with the Bryant Softball Association.
But that’s not all, they broke into the concession stand.
First, the vandals beat the door before walking to the other side of the concession stand. That’s where they ripped the window off the hinges, leaving thousands of dollars in damage.
“Anywhere between $2-4,000. It really depends on the amount. We haven’t gotten the amount on the concession stands yet,” says Griffin.
They say not only is it costing them extra money to cleanup, but also playing time.
“When you have something like this and you take down a field. It’s practice for three teams a night, it’s a lot of kids being affected,” says Griffin.
“It’s just been ongoing with people tearing up our field and they are taking from the kids in the long run,” says Mills.
The city hopes to find the people responsible so they can play ball again.
