BENTON, AR (News Release) – Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) is seeking local residents to become certified tax preparers and quality reviewers.
The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is offered in Pulaski, Lonoke, Saline, Hot Spring, Pike, Clark, Montgomery, Dallas, Union, Ouachita, Columbia, and Calhoun Counties through CADC. The program provides free tax return preparation for low to moderate income taxpayers, typically persons who make around $50,000 or less. If you are looking for a way to help in your community, then consider becoming a tax volunteer. People helping people – it’s that simple.
CADC schedules tax program orientation sessions periodically for new and potential volunteers in the program. For more information, contact Susan Wills at (501) 778-1133 or Jean Sorrells at (870) 867-0151.
Volunteers receive free specialized training and certification. No previous experience is required. CADC provides tax law training materials needed to prepare basic federal and state income tax returns.
Hours for service are flexible. Volunteers are encouraged to work at least 4 hours per week during tax season. CADC’s VITA Volunteers are a part of established program that has helped persons in Central and South Arkansas file tax returns at no charge for several years. In 2013, CADC tax volunteers helped more than 2,700 customers in 12 counties, returning more than $3 million in federal refund dollars to taxpayers at no cost.
