PULASKI COUNTY, AR – Diane and Mike Westbrook are the youngest of nine siblings. When their parents died, they left them their home. Unfortunately, it was worn and needed work.
The Pulaski Habitat for Humanity helped out. The organization says more than 3,500 volunteers hours and more than 200 volunteers later, they were able to build a new home at a location near the old house.
Mike is handicapped, so moving around he says is hard but now staff says the new dwelling is 100 percent disabled-friendly. The siblings were chosen after they applied online for the needed assistance.
“It makes me go more forward, it makes me go forward in life. To do better,” says Homeowner Diane Westbrook.
“We want them growing their homes. We want them growing their lives and hopefully staying here forever,” says Development Director Steve Biernacki.
Staff says the home is not free, the Westbrooks will have to pay back a no interest loan but the labor will not be billed.
