Volunteers With Russ Bus Build Cabins to Fight Homelessness

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Volunteers with the Russ Bus are working to combat homelessness in the River Valley this weekend.

Saturday they constructed two cabins to serve as temporary shelters for people in need of a helping hand.

The Cabin Program has been going on for four years, with around a half dozen single occupancy cabins.

The cabins built Saturday are the first two double occupancies, and a third is on the way.

They are on private land donated for the purpose.

On average there are 15 to 20 people are in need of shelter in the River Valley at any given time.

Russ Bus Director Fred Teague says it usually takes around 90 to 100 days for an occupant to find a job and other accommodations through the Cabin Program.

The Russ Bus is partnering with Lowe’s, the Journey Church, and Connect Church on the project.
