WHITE COUNTY, AR – A man accused of hitting and killing a Conway police officer with his car last year has been found dead.

The White County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) says shortly after 11 a.m. today, deputies were dispatched to 108 Sawmill Rd. outside of Bald Knob on a report of a man that was unresponsive.

Once on scene, deputies found Barry Strickland, 33, of Bald Knob, unconscious and had him taken to White County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The WCSO says no foul play is suspected but detectives are conducting a full investigation.

The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Strickland had been scheduled to do to trial on Dec. 4.

He had been charged with first-degree battery and driving while intoxicated charges in connection with the death of Conway police officer William McGary in January 2013. Authorities tell us the family of William McGary was notified about Strickland’s death today by their pastor.
