HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, AR — A woman has been charged with manslaughter after her bullmastiff attacked and killed a 75-year-old woman on Nov. 21, according to the Saline County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Joan Kappen had been out walking when she was attacked.
“She was the most wonderful person there ever was,” her husband Hans Kappen told FOX16 News the day he lost his wife of 11 years.
Warrants have been issued for Brande Michelle Coy and Emily Ann Coy. Brande is wanted for manslaughter, unlawful dog attack and harboring a vicious animal. Emily has a warrant for harboring a vicious animal.
Manslaughter is a Class “C” Felony punishable by up to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
According to a release, Circuit Judge Bobby McCallister found probable cause for all counts on both warrants.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office expects the women to turn themselves into the Saline County Jail.
