LITTLE ROCK, AR – Junior Travis McDonald has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after tossing 8.1 innings of shutout baseball in UALR’s 1-0 win over FIU on Saturday, May 11. With Chance Cleveland’s win on April 29 and Blake Huffman’s honor on May 6, UALR becomes the first SBC school to take home Pitcher of the Week honors in three-straight weeks since 2006 (Louisiana-Lafayette), and the first to do it with all three of its rotation pitchers since 1996 (South Alabama).
McDonald turned in the best pitching performance of his career on Saturday, allowing just four hits and striking out a career-high eight batters against one walk in 8.1 innings of shutout baseball. He retired nine-straight FIU batters over a span that lasted from the second inning through the fifth. The Sydney, Australia-native then retired ten-straight, beginning with the final out of the fifth inning and lasting through the final out of the eighth. McDonald issued just one free base on the day and did not allow a base runner to advance past first base in his 8.1 innings of work.
McDonald and the Trojans return to action on Thursday, when they begin their final Sun Belt series of the season at Arkansas State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Game three of this weekend’s series will be televised by Comcast Sports Southeast (Ch. 23 in Little Rock) as part of the Sun Belt Network and will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
