Police: A-State Basketball Player Arrested After Punching Officer in the Throat

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -A police officer is recovering in the hospital after a student/athlete punched a police officer in the throat, according to a Jonesboro police report.

The athlete, Anthony Livingston, became combative towards Jonesboro police officers as they responded to St. Bernard’s Behavioral Health. Livingston was charged with battery of a law enforcement officer and arrested on several other crimes, according to court documents.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police were dispatched to the health facility Friday when they were confronted by Livingston.

“Officers attempted to calm Livingston and figure out what was wrong with him,” the affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated Livingston was irate and that he would “break their necks” if police tried to stop him from leaving the building.

An officer then pulled out his Taser and told Livingston “that he would be tased unless he followed commands.”

At that time, Livingston charged the officer and punched him in the throat, breaking the Hyoid bone in the officer’s neck.

The officer, identified as Tyler Wilson, remains in the hospital. His condition is not known.

Livingston then ran from the building, across Johnson and into a field next to Centennial Bank Stadium.

Livingston was then arrested after being hit with the Taser by another Jonesboro officer.

The affidavit also states that Livingston threatened 2 people at St. Bernard’s before officers arrived on scene.

Livingston was given a $5,000 bond and ordered to appear in court June 29, 2015.
