LITTLE ROCK, AR – Georgia Southern (24-16, 14-7) completed the three-game sweep of UALR (14-22, 10-10) by a score of 10-3 on Sunday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field.

UALR’s offense was held in check for the majority of the day, but Ryan Scott managed to go 2 for 5 and was the only Trojan with multiple hits.

Georgia Southern started the series finale with a single up the middle by Kody Adams. After advancing to second on a ground out, Adams stole third. Chase Griffin hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Adams to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Georgia Southern struck for three more runs in the top of the third inning. Aaron Mizell doubled to left field with one out before Hunter Thomas walked. Ryan Cleveland then delivered a three-run shot to right center, increasing Georgia Southern’s lead to 4-0.

UALR fought back in the bottom half of the inning as Justin Steelmon earned a leadoff double to center field. Steelmon advanced to third on a fly out to right before coming home on a sacrifice fly to center field by Petr Sila.

With a 4-1 lead heading into the sixth, Georgia Southern added one more with a single up the middle, scoring David Busby from third after he walked, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Starter Sam Thoele put up a career-high of 10 strikeouts before being pulled in the top of the sixth. Thoele gave up five runs on four hits with a total pitch count of 106.

Georgia Southern’s five runs doubled in the top of the seventh. Adams started the inning by doubling to center before Mizell sent a two-run homer over the right field wall. Thomas singled to short before Ryan Cleveland jacked his second home run of the day down the right field line. The Trojans were forced to go to the bullpen for the second time, but Busby launched the Eagles’ fourth homer of the day to right center.

Down 10-1 in the eighth, UALR put up its best offensive effort of the day as the Trojans scored two runs on four hits. Tanner Rockwell singled through the left side to lead off the inning before pinch hitter Brandon Gil singled to center. Jason Prevatt then singled to center field to load the bases for the Trojans with no outs. Sam Vogel delivered UALR’s fourth consecutive hit with a single to right, scoring Rockwell from third. The Trojans grounded into a double play as Gil crossed the plate to decrease the deficit to 10-3.

The Trojans’ luck finally ran out in the bottom of the ninth as two ground outs and a line out ended the game and gave the Eagles a three-game sweep.
UALR will now travel to Oral Roberts for midweek non-conference action on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
