Update (March 3):
LITTLE ROCK, AR – Pro boxer Jermain Taylor is out of jail after a circuit court decides he’s fit to stand trial. However, he won’t await his day in the courtroom at home.

He’s been moved from jail to Recovery Centers of Arkansas. The facility specializes in rehabilitation for substance abuse and related disorders.

“I’m not a dangerous person at all,” Taylor said to our cameras when he left the Pulaski County Jail.

The ankle monitor will keep watch over Taylor 24/7.

Taylor, 36, had been behind bars since late January after his second arrest since August 2014. Taylor’s January arrest came after he was accused of firing a gun near a man and his family during the MLK Day parade in Little Rock.

He was initially freed on bail, but the charges were in violation of August arrest, which took place after his cousin was wounded in a shooting at Taylor’s home near Maumelle.

After his January arrest, Taylor was ordered to undergo a physical and mental evaluation.

In February, a psychologist told the court that Taylor has problems with alcohol, marijuana and impulse issues but wants to change. He said further that Taylor has been a “complete gentleman” but has a “frat boy mentality” when he’s not training.

In early February, the two-time middleweight title holder was stripped of his champion status by the International Boxing Federation, due to his legal troubles.

Original story (Feb. 10):
LITTLE ROCK, AR – Pro boxer Jermain Taylor was back in court this morning for a hearing at the Pulaski County Courthouse.

It’s the second appearance in court for Taylor since his arrest last month.

During the hearing before Judge Leon Johnson, Taylor was ordered back to the hospital for further evaluation. The psychologist working with Taylor will give the judge a recommendation later this week.

The therapist told the judge Taylor has problems with alcohol, marijuana and impulse issues but wants to change. He said further that Taylor has been a “complete gentleman” but has a “frat boy mentality” when he’s not training.

The Oasis Renewal Center has a plan for Taylor if the judge decides to send him there. A representative of the center says Taylor would spend 60-120 days there and then transition to rehab.

In his last appearance before a judge, Taylor, 36, was ordered to undergo a full mental and physical evaluation at a hospital.
