Interstate Lines Go Missing after Snowplows Treat Roads

LITTLE ROCK, AR – We have seen our fair share of winter weather this year and some interstates show the impact. When snow and ice cover the road the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department scrape the roads, and some lines on the interstate that aren’t painted on end up coming off.

Parts of Interstate 40 are one example. In some spots you can barely see the skip lines in the roads. Mostly because some have been picked up.

It’s not just the skip lines, but the outside lane markers have been picked up by plows. Scraped lines can be found all across the state, however I-430 is the worst because of what is used when crews lay down the markers.

The Transportation Department used a belly plow to get the snow and ice off the roads. It was very successful, so successful that it took the lanes with it. But the transportation says theses skip lines will be replaced.

“I do know that there have been several of them that have been impacted but they place them so close together so you can pretty much tell where the lanes are.”

But when it will get replaced is a different story. Crews have to wait until the weather gets warmer to do so.

There was also some paint on the brand new flyover bridge merging I-430 North with I-630 East that too will be replaced. The Highway Department says the construction crews working on the interchange will be in charge of that.
