LITTLE ROCK, AR – Severe weather is in the forecast for Arkansas over the next two days.
The National Weather Service (NWS) says the storm potential includes damaging thunderstorm winds, large hail, and tornadoes.
The most widespread severe risk is expected Thursday (Moderate Risk) from the southern Plains/Ozarks to the lower/middle Mississippi River Valley and lower Ohio River Valley.
The NWS says thus far, there have been no tornadoes in Arkansas this year, but that could change with this storm system.
On the 2nd, a weak system from the southwest will interact with a stalled front in Missouri/Kansas and a dryline (separating moist air to the east from dry air to the west) in Oklahoma/Texas. The interaction will trigger severe thunderstorms during the afternoon/evening, and some storms could build into the northwest half of Arkansas.
A much stronger system will approach the region on the 3rd, and this should result in more widespread severe weather. Again, the main show is expected during the afternoon/evening.
Damaging winds, hail and tornadoes are expected during both events. In Arkansas, the latter event (on the 3rd) looks the most ominous at this time.
