SALINE COUNTY, AR – Brake lights are a common sight on Interstate 30 in Saline County, but Monday’s winter weather had traffic at a stand-still.
According to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, several semis jackknifed on I-30 in the Benton/Bryant area causing major delays.
“I think we’ll be lucky to see home probably by midnight,” said driver Tim Smith. To make the time pass, he said they were, “aggravating each other and laughing.”
Transportation officials said getting plows and salt trucks through this kind of congestion is difficult so road conditions suffer.
“The best thing to do is just pull over and wait,” said truck driver James Hudson, deciding to play it safe and wait for things to clear up.
He said the alternative is simply not worth it. “The road conditions are so bad that by going you’re not going to get anywhere very quick.”
Around 6 p.m. Monday, the traffic started to move again. Snow plows came out to help the roads clear.
