Hwy. Department Prepares for Winter Weather With More Workers, New Equipment

LITTLE ROCK, AR – As Arkansans woke up to the sight of sleet and snow crews at the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) took to the roads to start the treating process with the new belly plows recently added to their fleet.

19 belly plows total will help AHTD crews this winter season. AHTD officials say it’s like having two snow plows in one which means it does a better job at clearing the roads.

And thanks to an increase in budget, AHTD plans to hire 200 general labor workers and drivers across the state.

“These are not just seasonal winter employees, these are full-time around the calender year maintenance employees around throughout state,” says Danny Straessle.

AHTD is hosting a job fair at its central office complex in Little Rock on Friday.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
