State Highway Department Restocks for Round 3 of Winter Weather

LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department is restocking salt supplies and preparing for a third round of winter weather. The department purchased 12,000 tons of salt in October.

According to spokesperson Danny Straessle, the department has been distributing large quantities of the product during the 12-hour shifts its workers are currently maintaining. On Tuesday, supplies were being restocked to prepare for another round of winter weather forecasts for Wednesday are showing.

“We are in good shape with supplies and the trucks are arriving throughout the day and state to deliver those supplies so we should be in good shape for the storm tomorrow,” Straessle said.

Many highways across the state were clear by Tuesday afternoon. According to Straessle, crews would start to pretreat dry highways in preparation for the next round as well.
