LITTLE ROCK, AR – It’s been two days since an ice storm created power outages across Arkansans and still tens of thousands of people have no electricity. The often difficult work, made worse by cold temperatures, goes on around the clock for power company crews.
As of 7:45 this morning, Entergy Arkansas was reporting more than 18.000 customers in the dark. (Down from 27,000 Wednesday afternoon).
The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas have approximately 3,600 outages. The majority of the outages remain at Craighead Electric Cooperative of Jonesboro and Woodruff Electric Cooperative of Forrest City.
More than 200 line workers and support staff are working diligently on the remaining outages in Craighead Electric’s service territory. The outages continue to be scattered in eastern Craighead, eastern Poinsett and Crittenden counties. Crews will continue working in Monette, Caraway, Rivervale, Lepanto, Trumann, South of Marked Tree, Tulot and Payneway. The cooperative suffered major infrastructure damage in these areas with more than 50 poles broken or severely damanged.
Woodruff’s outages are concentrated along Crowley’s Ridge. Additional contract and cooperative crews are on site and hope to make significant progress today.
Collectively, the state’s 17 electric cooperatives peak outage count was 18,000 during this round of winter weather.
